How to assign card credentials to users in standalone mode

This article details how to assign card credentials to users on the iface facial recognition terminal in standalone mode. If your iface is part of a networked access control system, you can also add card and PIN credentials directly on the reader. isync users must not enroll faces using the standalone process, as the isync software will automatically delete them. For more information download the isync manual.

What are card credentials?

Card or tag credentials are physical items that are embedded with an RFID chip that is read and verified by a corresponding reader.

What is multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) refers to a system that requires a user to present more than one credential in order to be authenticated.

iface offers both single-factor and multi-factor authentication options.

What are the options for authentication using iface?

iface users can gain access using a range of different options:
  1. Face only - the user only needs to verify their face.
  2. Face or card - the user can either verify their face or scan a card.
  3. Face and PIN - the user must verify their face and then enter a PIN.
  4. Card and face - the user must scan a card and then verify their face.
  5. Card and PIN - the user must scan a card and then enter a PIN (no facial recognition is required).
  6. Bypass card - the user can scan a card to bypass all other required authentication in order to gain access.
The order that the different factors appear in this list dictate the order that the must be presented to the reader - i.e. for card and face, the user must first present their card credential and then verify their face in order to gain entry.

How to set up multi-factor authentication

  1. Enter the iface main menu
  2. Select the Authentication icon.
  3. Select Auth mode from the list, and then press Mode
  4. Choose the mode you want to enable from the list. The three options for MFA are Face and PINCard and face, or Card and PIN.
That's it - as soon as you select the mode, it is enabled and any future users will need to adhere to the requirements.

How to assign a card to a user

  1. Enter the main menu.
  2. Select the User icon.
  3. Either add a new user or select the user you want to edit. You can search for specific users' names using the search bar at the bottom of the list.
  4. When the Modify screen appears, showing the user's details, press the Card + button.
  5. Present the card or tag to the RFID section at the bottom of the reader unit. When it is successfully enrolled, the card's unique identifying number will appear on the screen.
  6. You can assign more than one card to a user. To add another card, press the down arrow to scroll to the next available slot. Then present the new credential to the reader.
  7. When you have registered all the credentials that you want to assign, press OK
  8. Then press OK again to complete the assignment and save the changes.
You will see the message Enroll success pop up on the screen to confirm the changes.

Remember that card or tag credentials used with iface must utilise MIFARE® DESFire® or FeliCa® technology protocols.

NOTE: If you have multiple iface readers on your premises and they are working in standalone mode, you will need to assign the PIN to the user on all of the relevant readers individually.
