Why is there no RJ45 connector on the intercom?

Robin intercoms use PoE (Power over Ethernet) to combine the supply of electrical power and network connectivity into one cable.

In the back of the intercom device, the cable is not connected with a standard RJ45 Ethernet connector. Instead, there is a terminal block for direct wire connections.

The individual wires must be connected correctly according to the colour coding on the PCB. It is important that the colours match exactly. Refer to the installation manual for detailed information.

Using loose wires instead of a connector eliminates the need to crimp a connector. This is especially useful because an RJ45 plug often does not fit through narrow cable conduits in walls.

In addition, the terminal block is better protected from the effects of weather when installed outdoors.

We recommend using CAT6 or CAT6e Ethernet cables for optimal performance.
