Can the DIGIWAY Spring Return work in wind-affected areas?
In windy or draughty areas, the door operator can be made to close more firmly or faster. This is achieved by applying extra spring tension and/or reducing motor breaking. This will increase the closing speeds set in the Main Functions menu (V3S and V4S).
It can be tricky to balance these settings as wind and draughts are variable. If a wind is strong one day, the door might fall short of closing. On still days, it might slam shut.
Installers should discuss with end users how it is better for the operator to function in this case. The two factors to consider are the security of the door potentially remaining open in strong wind, versus the irritation of the door slamming. Measures could be taken to overcome the slamming effect. The frequency of both of these eventualities should be considered.
If you are using fully automatic mode (where the motor assists the door in closing), it opens up the possibility of blockages being detected by the door in strong wind. The operator has built-in safety functions to stop it from pushing against an obstacle such as a pedestrian. This function can have its sensitivity reduced. However, again this should be balanced carefully against the need for safety. An operator cannot tell the difference between an obstacle force applied by a person or object and that applied by the force of the wind.
